Where Jen Carter Coaching began
Eight years ago today, Jen Carter Coaching was born.
Where it all began…Duke Integrative Medicine, June 2018
A month before I completed my coaching training at Duke, a woman I hadn't met before walked up to me at my daughter's dance class and said, "I heard you're becoming a coach and I need you."
Let me back up a bit further. In late 2015 I moved from living at the beach in Kure Beach, NC to Greenville, SC for my husband's medical technology start-up company. Living in Kure Beach had been the most enjoyable and relaxed I had ever been. It's a place I never wanted to leave and where I wanted my kids to grow up. However, my husband finally had a chance to follow his dreams of stepping out of his career in medicine and into his passion for technology, and that required us to move 3 days before Christmas 2015.
I have moved an outrageous amount of times in my life, so I didn't think much of doing it again. But something about this move to Greenville was different. It was like trying to make myself fit back into a box I had outgrown. And that led to me losing not only the place I lived, but a big piece of myself.
I won't bore you with the details, but know that this transition is what led me to become more lost than ever before. It's also what led me to train at Duke to reconfigure myself. And that reconfiguration also taught me coaching, which aligned with growing my true self and allowed me to evolve into the version of myself that you know today.
So when this incredible woman walked up to me at dance class and told me why she needed my coaching, her story was so eerily familiar that I knew we needed to work together.
And the day of our first session, my first session as a coach, was June 9th, 2018.
That was 8 years ago.
I truly want to thank you for being a part of this journey. For trusting me with the things you may have never said out loud before, for allowing me to help you grow into an even more 'you' version of yourself, and for being the reason that I am able to live out my dream of making the world a little better one conversation, one event, one course at a time.
Your trust is never taken lightly. Thank you for 8 incredible years...and hopefully for more to come.
