A Reminder You Might Need Today

Just a reminder on this Thanksgiving that among all the things you may be thankful for, YOU are the constant that ties it all together.

The tradition at my house is to sit around the table, hold hands, and say what we are thankful for this year before we dig into the feast. And I always find myself thinking of all the people who have added so much to my life, for health, and for the blessings we have been given.

But I have never mentioned myself, which is funny because I often ask my clients, “What do you appreciate about yourself since our last session?”

The first few times I ask this, people look at me like I just asked them to speak a foreign language which, in a way, I did. We were never taught how to appreciate ourselves, it’s a language we never learned.

Many of us were taught that it is selfish or egotistical, yet I have never had a single egotistical person walk into my office. What I do have are people who work hard, care deeply, and discount themselves while they pour into building up everyone and everything around them.

Over time, my clients begin to learn this new language and they consider themselves as an important part of their lives. They start recognizing what they are proud of and what they appreciate about themselves. Their heads still fit easily through my doorway, but they are far more balanced, grounded, and able to support others from a place of wholeness.

So this Thanksgiving, I hope you take a moment to include yourself in your list of thanks, even if it’s a silent whisper. Remember, we aren’t after ‘you only,’ we’re aiming for ‘you also’.

With gratitude, love, and light,
Jen
